About
"The One Who Flies” is a surreal representation of longing beyond the physical world, inspired by “The Flyer” or “Zburătorul” from Romanian Folklore.
In Romanian mythology, Zburătorul is a fantastic being imagined as an evil spirit, which torments unmarried girls and recently married women in their sleep at night. It is believed to be a man who, during his life, was rejected by a woman, and who, after death, haunts and makes women on Earth fall in love with him In romantic literature, the term “flyer” is a personification of longing and intense love for the beloved man.
Zburătorul manifests here as a vast, otherworldly entity that seems to both protect and enchant the woman. The translucent, organic figure surrounding the her suggests an unseen force, simultaneously alien and intimate. Each image existing in a limbo-like space where reality blurs with dreams, reflecting the complex emotional landscape navigated by those touched by the supernatural. The woman’s expressions shift from curiosity to contemplation, and finally to surrender, mirroring the stages of a deep, subconscious connection that is both captivating and consuming.
